Aquilanit Viaggia's 10 day tour of medieval Italy unfolds as we trace the footsteps of St. Thomas Aquinas and dante through Rome, Florence, Ravenna, Venice, Orvieto and Viterbo. Our classical itinerary through Italy's most famous cities and medieval towns has a special perspective, including sites that where important to the lives of both St. Thomas Aquinas (The Dominican Monk and Medieval Philosopher) and Dante Alighieri (A poet, politician and the author of the Divine Comedy). Further highlights include a religious service in the city of Aquinas, where St. Thomas would give his sunday sermines.

Rome The Eternal City, home of St. Peters Basilca and the Vatican Museum where we will see Michelangelo's recently restored frescoes. Other interesting sites include the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Via Veneto, Via Appia and the early Christian Catacoms. Three nights accommodation.A city tour of Rome and excursions to Roccasecca, Cassino and Fossanuova. Breakfast and lunch on arrival, and a welcome dinner will be held at the Restaurant Trastevere.

Viterbo One of many medieval cities in Italy with its famous fountains, was once the residence of the popes. We will visit Santa Maria Nuova the 12th century church where St. Thomas preached and where we will sing some of St. Thomas' hymns. Two nights accommodation with a dinner and a full days guided tour of Viterbo (Villa Lante in Bagnaia) and Orvieto. |
Florence The Cradle of the Renaissance and the city of Dante, Da Vinci and Michelangelo; a city richly endowed with medieval monuments and renaissance buildings. Peer up at Brunelleschi's cupola topping off the duomo, inside admire Domenico Michelino's painting of Dante with the Divine Comedies. Explore Dante's Bel San Giovanni, the Baptistry of San Gionvanni with its famous bronze doors by Ghiberti, and Dante's memorial in the Church of the Santa Croce. Two nights accommodation, including breakfast and a guide tour of Florences magical buildings and art. |
Ravenna A former Adriatic port where Dante lived with the Da Polenta family after his exile from Florence, where he completed the Divine Comedy, and where he is buried. Ravenna is also known for it's Byzantine jewels of Sante Vitale, the Tomb of Galla Placidia, and San Appollinaire. One night accommodation and a half day excursion to Ravenna and a guided tour of the city. Lunch and Breakfast is included. |

Venice The enchanting "city of canals", that are lined with wealthy palaces built from the 12th through to the 18th Century. Tour highlights include the Basilica of San Marco, with it's impressive Byzantine mosaics, marble carving and the 14th Century Doge's Palace. Three nights accommodation with breakfast and excursions to Verona. A full days guided tour of Venice, a classical music concert in the Doge's city, and a farewell dinner.
